Shaykh Abu Eesa Niamatullah is original, addictive and with an unparalleled (and extremely dark!) sense of humour, Shaykh Abu Eesa (universally known as "AE") combines experience, 'ilm and a modern understanding and application which is unique and utterly relevant. Don't be fooled by his jocular exterior - it is unsurprising just how treasured he is to our student body as one of our most passionate and knowledgeable senior instructors.

Mohammed is a second generation Ethiopian immigrant of Oromo ancestry.[1][2] His Parents came to Canada as political refugees seeking asylum in the country after their involvement with the Oromo Liberation Movement in Ethiopia.

He grew up in the down-town Toronto area and was heavily involved in the street life while attending Oakwood Collegiate Institute. He graduated at the top of his class and was named Valedictorian before enrolling in Ryerson University and graduating from the Radio and Television Arts program in 2011.
Shaykh Yahya started his knowledge journey with the memorisation of Qur’ān in his teens and then pursued his studies in exegesis, jurisprudence and hadith with scholars from the Hijaz, and in Egypt as well.

As a proud Canadian yet happy Aussie, he travels the world regularly from his base in Perth, enriching the lives of thousands with his wise and balanced commentary on matters that are most important to Muslims in our time. His initiatives in Australia include diversity training, cultural sensitivity programs, educational lectures and media presentations. His expertise is sought by schools, universities and a wide range of government & non-government organisations.

Action vs. Intention

Sh. Majed Mahmoud

The theme for this Ilmfest is the five principles of Islamic law. The first one being, that matters should be considered in light of the intention behind it. Should an action of a person be judged by what their objective is? In this lecture, Sh. Majed Mahmoud will discuss this first maxim, relating it to today’s perspective and bringing examples from the past.

Certainty Removes Doubt

Sh. Ammar Alshukry

When should doubt determine our actions? How can we be certain of something without succumbing to doubt? Can we make decisions based on an uncertainty? In this lecture, Sh. Ammar Alshukry discusses the principle of certainty not being overruled by doubt.

Hardship Begets Ease

Ust. Taimiyyah Zubair

Allah SWT intends ease for us, not hardship. Islam was made easy for us to practice. What is the wisdom behind hardship? Do we bring hardship upon ourselves? Ust. Taimiyyah Zubair discusses the third principle on achieving ease and not imposing hardship.

Do No Harm

Sh. Suleiman Hani

Islam forbids harm, whether it is taking part in that which causes harm, or being the source of harm. How can we decrease harm in the world against people, animals, and even the environment? What are harmful things we need to avoid doing, or taking part in? Sh. Suleiman Hani discusses this in detail.

Weighing the Benefits and Harms

Sh. Ahsan Hanif

Muslims around the world each have cultural values and customs significant to where they are from. Living in Western society, there are many cultural norms that we have adopted as our own. Where do we draw the line? Are we allowed to take from the customs of our country’s or family’s culture?

Comprehending the Qur'an & Sunnah

Sh. Waleed Basyouni

The Quran and Sunnah aren’t things that you can take lightly when it comes to fully understanding their true meanings and lessons. There are certain rules and maxims needed in order to comprehend both Qur’an and Sunnah. What are those rules? Sh. Waleed Basyouni will be discussing the maxims of comprehending the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Prophet (saw).

Your Decade of the Quran

Imam Wisam Sharieff

It’s the start of a new decade. 2020. What if this year, you fell in love with your own voice? What if this is the year in which your own reading, reciting and reflection of Quran made you happy? What if this year, you experience a real quran revolution? Imam Wisam Sharieff discusses how we can reconnect with the book of Allah and make it an important and consistent part of our lives.
